About the Scholarship

The Bruce Brown Memorial Scholarship was founded in November, 2011 in honor of Bruce Coleman Brown. Bruce's love and passion for music, and particularly, the French horn, inspired his wife, Debbie and three sons: Aaron, Brandon and Stephen to start this scholarship in his honor. The scholarship is awarded in the amount of $500 and is available to one French horn player who is a high school senior, graduating in the Clear Creek, Friendswood or Pasadena School Districts. Donations toward this scholarship are accepted by mail and are completely applied toward the awarded amount that the chosen candidate will receive.

About Bruce

Bruce was born in McAllen, Texas in 1952. From an early age, Bruce had a love for music. After transferring to South Houston High School in 1968, Bruce became drum major and made All-State his sophomore year and first chair-All-State his senior year. Bruce went on to study music education at the University of Houston, and then returned to SOHO as assistant band director. Bruce changed careers in 1980, but retained his passion for and expertise in music. He continued to give private French horn lessons and was a member of the Sagemont Church orchestra for more than 20 years, as well as the Clear Lake Symphony since 2006.
